DETAIL ENGINEERING REVIEW AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT OF ROMPCO HIGH PRESSURE GAS PIPELINE (LOOP LINE 2)
Following the success that VGI had in the design and construction management of the 145 km, 26 inch diameter, high pressure gas pipeline (GNP) between the Secunda and Sasol Factories, Sasol South Africa, on behalf of the Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investment Company (ROMPCO), appointed VGI Consulting Africa (an affiliate of VGI Consulting Inc) for the design review and construction management of the second Loop Line of the existing Mozambique to Secunda Pipeline (MSP). This 26 inch, 127 km long, pipeline crosses the Gaza and Inhambane provinces in Mozambique. The Loop Lines are required to increase the capacity of the MSP Pipeline feeding natural gas from Temane and Pande gas fields in Mozambique to South Africa. The MSP Pipeline’s importance to South Africa is not often realized but the gas from this pipeline has an immense importance to the commercial hub (Gauteng) of South Africa as it is the major source of energy to both industrial, commercial and domestic heating requirements. Except for the importance to Gauteng it also forms the feedstock for the gas to liquids plants and chemical plants of Sasol in Secunda and Sasolburg as well large industries such as ArcelorMittal and other foundries near Sasolburg.
